Drum Pedals

Setting the drum kit – A Beginners Guide

There are almost infinite variations of the formal battery affected by the size and number drum technique player, the number and size of saucers, the physical size and scope of the battery, the possibility of setting up equipment and therefore less "accepted" style and look to play a certain type of music. However, there are some basic rules that apply to any drummer in any aspiring to advance the instrument, and not pick up all the bad habits of gambling or injury concerns. All I will say is this article is based on personal experience years of snare drums, and engineering / recording, but a fact that there will be a degree of subjective opinion here – Take what you find useful and leave the rest! Finally, before you get stuck, I'm so clever All references to left or right based on this view – if you play with your left hand, just in reverse. Step more fundamental to the setting that works best for you is how to best organize your stool, bass drum and bass drum pedal. Set the bass drum pedal and plug in a separate not experiment, where the drummer actually hits the hype, and more intuitive position for it (hit the head dead center) often does not produce the best sounds available – Try one or two inches above that, especially in large drums. If you use a double pedal, take a moment to make sure the pedal position is secondary to the hips legs too far, but do not worry too much about this – it probably fits both the snare and hi-hats come into play anyway. Now the height of the stool. Get this right is one of the most important steps to feel comfortable with your equipment, but also one of the variables with the highest degree of personal preference. In general, if you play down with the heel hype most of the time (a more controlled, the traditional style of game that sacrifices power pure and simple finesse and subtlety feces) should be adjusted to a height that puts her legs almost horizontal when the foot on the pedal (Figure 1). As a "heel" is his style (with more power with every stroke of the thigh to the ankle, usually gives a more potent), plus stool may be necessary (Figure 2) – That said, if the leg is in a downward angle when your toe is on the pedal and the heel as high as you received your chair is too high! Ok, now we have set up your stool, we present the trap. In First a word about the angle – looks like something one way in recent years to sit high enough above his team with the most drums on the whole a horizontal angle. There is nothing wrong with that at all, but note that fixing your drum-blind fashion and not what suits your style really inviting best strains, the missed shots and bad playing habits, especially if they have not fully developed his own style yet. Once again, the game of the technique generally has a significant impact on this – if you play with a handle adapted (ie, both hands holding the stick the same way), the trap can be convenient horizontal or slightly inclined towards you. If you play with 'jazz' traditional or control (ie, left hand holding the stick smart, rest the "web" of the thumb area), while the battery is probably leaning less comfortable – some players, even the angle of the trans traps away from them to mimic the position of the drum work that developed the handle. Whatever decision you are using another golden rule (there are a few of these;! I mean, there is nothing good or bad to set up a computer, simply the best way for you) to measure a trap position is to keep a straight stick your belly button and be sure the end is somewhere in the central region of the head of the mass of the trap (Fig. 3). Having taken our height of the stool in the best position when feet are used on the drum, now may need a commitment made by light trap, but it is a good way to get in the field of law in general – if the trap is very low, it is very likely to find a beating from her legs over too high, and it is likely that each note is a trick-shot edge, if you want it or not! Like or not any flash game to integrate into the drums and cymbals, bass drum and the box is what gives a song its groove to give you completely satisfied with the position the first two reels. Before proceeding, you should be able to play the wheel into the trap without realizing it hit the rim, while being able to integrate split rim shots head (when the stick hits the rim and the head of the dough at a time) without changing the grip and with minimal changes in position. Oh, and sit up straight! Next we look at the hi-hat placement. Your left foot should now easily fall into a particular position and now we kick snare drum on the right to put the pedal hat salvation here. Hi-hat with the rotation of the legs or stands with two legs to keep the pedal position and of others around him later, but not a commitment to vertical, where the hi-hat is – taking the position of the drums like a clock with the box as the center and directly in front of your body before noon, do not be surprised if the provision is the more comfortable while the drum and the hi-hat stand at eleven. What we seek is the point where right hand drummer can be easily moved without the hi-hat hat to be in the form of drumming – the size of the box and hi-hats will this affect (see Figure 4, where I made a 13 "snare and 12" hi-hats, and the relatively small size, while allowing the instruments to be close enough, which is not always the case), experiment and see what works best for you. As goes hi-hat, the ideal is where both hands can go tapas ability to catch without being so low that prevent their trap game – usually around 15-20cm above the trap pasta will do, but many players (including Dave Grohl of Nirvana in the day, and a series of punk batteries, which did not have much hi-hat work) put their hi-hats more than that. The drum next to the place where almost every batsman will have in your kit is the first tom floor.

Usually fit nicely against the snare drum on the right, and most drummers playing on stage or in rooms where space is at a premium will want more drum where possible. Much more to the right and the amount you want this drum is new matter of personal preference, but a good place to start is making it as symmetrical as possible with the trap – was at the same level first with the angle opposite the way the trap is set (a sort of using your kick as a mirror) then touch as you like (Figure 5). You should be looking toward the place where you can keep a roll of mesh on the floor with a minimum turnover Tom your body.

The last part of the package that I think are 99% of the drummers is the ride cymbal configurations. This facility must fall somewhere on the right hand, but Where exactly depends on what other drums and cymbals, to train his drum kit. Personally, I like being a little on the first floor Tom (Figure 6) but exactly where his place is used depends on how many signs mounted, if you have a second story of Tom, if you have to be able to 'Crash' the ride cymbal and the way the dish is physically large. However, for a beginner, I think if you follow these tips and your computer configuration set by time to design a "brief" as soon be able to work on their own individual style of play, the location where to put the other drums and cymbals on your own computer, avoiding overshoot. And three final things – 1 / Even an hour of class with a professional tutor will be worth it when his childhood, in particular to ensure the grip stick is correct, 2 / Once you have worked about his best game feel for you, if a concert much to invest in a cheap carpet and a permanent marker and marks on the carpet where go (Figure 7). Gigging even a couple of times a month, saving you hours of installation time in a race, and 3 / if it The kit comes with four drums and cymbals, six, is NOT necessary to use them. Configure your computer as you have said, is to learn to play well and then work when and where to provide additional information.

Remember that good music was made in the minimal sets, and good music was made in the big games – the only link have been played by great players. (Words: Ian Savage) About the Author
