Percussion Class/School Band?
What is the type of Percussion that I should “specialize” in?
Snare, bass, bells, …?
Sorry I didn’t mean to post this in the P&S category
Overall, I’d say work on bells or ‘pitched note’ instruments. But make sure to keep up your technique for all other instruments. Percussionists need to be versatile in their skills. Many percussionists have good technique on snare and bass and auxiliary instruments but cannot play bells/marimba/xylophone, so the whole band’s sound is limited when nobody in the back can play
the important bell parts.
Specialize in whatever makes you happy, whatever you enjoy the most, but make sure to keep up technique in everything else and always learn as much as you can so you can participate and perform your best all the time! That’s the most fun of all.
