Do you prefer an electric/ gas hedge trimmer or hand held pruners

i love my black and decker trimmer, i can cut thru brush so fast, but its not the best for shaping.
should i use a hand held one for shaping before or after and still use my electric one?

trimmer will facilitate walking around freely. I am always wrestling with my power cord.
