Do you believe, if all batters really believed in themselves and motivated themselves, they would hit .500?
I know the MLB record is .426 and only seven or so players have passed the .400 mark but it is clear. batters tell themselves hitting .500 isn’t possible, so they dont TRY to beat it. they just play to be “better than the average” but not better for them all. I am sure, if someone put it effort and belief, one day we will have not one but maybe five hundred .500 batters. if that’s ten or a thousand years, who knows.

No. There is also luck. That’s why the seasons are so long. I watched Wade Boggs smack 5 sharp l ine drives
in one game once. He was 0 for 5. I’ve seen guys bloop 2 and even 3 hits in a game. After 162 games or so, the luck is separated from the skill. No one has come close to .500 and no one will.
