Why do Africans still refer to themselves by thier colonialized nations names

Outside of Liberia and maybe Ethiopia the African countries were carved out and named by Europeans and named them things like Nigeria, Ghana, Rwandan, etc.
(well after slavery). Why do Africans continue to boast about being from a nationality that isnt even theirs. I think the only country that have changed thier name to an African made one is Zimbabwe.
I totally agree with you…I know I am guilty of this as well however…
because I dont know the “African” names of the countries/tribes my ancestors came from I simply use their modern day names…
